Here is another article on Medium that should be getting put on a lot more feeds, but isn't. The Medium algorithms are indeed strange beasts.

One of the disconnects between the scientists and the public is the scientists' privileged position. Scientists are paid considerably better, have interesting jobs, and get to travel a lot. It is real hard for the lower-middle class and working poor to relate to these people.

BTW, I watched a bit of the impeachment hearings. I could not help but notice most of the people in that room were probably earning $100,000 a year (or will soon be). Another disconnect.

I have developed an alternative version of democracy with no political parties. One of the institutions that could evolve from this democracy is what I have called The Consultancy. The Consultancy would be divided into various fields of expertise. Experts from these fields are appointed to serve several years. When the elected representatives need to get some scientific background, they could consult with this group--as opposed to taking the advice of the scientists already in their political camp.
