There's a whole psychology happening as to why we cannot bridge that divide any more. The Trump base has put a lot of identify into their position. Not only that, they have acquired a big social circle along with that identity. If they were to suddenly "see the light," they would lose all that. Rather than confront their mistake, they will continue in the same direction.

But we should recognize that the system created a situation that not only put a rogue into a powerful position, but also created a "bad" culture.
