Ron:
In my youth, I tried to save the world by entering politics. I spent 1986 to 1992 as an active volunteer in a Canadian party.
While a big part of me was caught up in the drama of internal party affairs, a little part was questioning things. Slowly, I realized that party politics is inherently dysfunctional. That dysfunction moves into governance and society-at-large.
Realizing that my political involvement was not making a better world, I quit politics.
Your metaphor of "castles in the air" is very appropriate. These castles do not have a solid foundation under them. Until we get rid of the political party, we will never have a solid foundation.
