Ron: Over the years, I have heard the phrase "our politicians are a reflection of us." And this is connected to "we get the government we deserve."
I've encountered thinkers who believe that most systems of government would work out OK---------if enough of the people went on a life journey to improve their own character. This improvement would then translate to better quality of politicians.
Sounds good in theory, but our politicians actually lead us---in the development of our own values. Mr. Trump is a good example. Certain values used to be kept away from the public; he has "given permission" to proudly put them on display.
If one person does improve his own character, and five other citizens shift their values closer to a rogue, society has not progressed.
