Sam Young published a few pieces on "manor house economics," which was common in feudalistic times in Europe.
Basically, a citizen had the freedom to work with the manor house (or not). The occupations were mostly agricultural in nature, but there were other way to partner with a manor house.
But often the manor house was in a monopoly position. So the ambitious citizen had to accept the terms of the manor house. No negotiation.
Sam says the internet conglomerates are a version of the manor house. Terms of the manor house and entrepreneur can change at any time without warning. I have a little experience in that myself, but not as serious as yours.
