SC: You are making some excellent points here. Maybe worthy of a separate article.

I see the refusal to take the vaccine as part of a several and bigger problems:

1) Too many people cannot process risk logically. I tried to have a few discussions of the Covid risk with other people. People are hearing 0% or 100% regardless of what Dr. Faucci is saying. On other facets of life, talking about managing risk has been a way for me to get socially ostracizied.

2) Too many people just don't give a f##k about people they don't know. For example, stop enforcing speed limits and see what happens to the frequency of traffic accidents.

3) Dunning-Kruger Effect. I was introduced to this psychological trait on Medium. I have had a lot of people in my life who are experts on everything. I think I used to be one of them.

4) Experts are sometimes wrong. Often they are not united in their assessment.

5) Knee-jerk reactions and band aide solutions. Some EU countries banned the use of one vaccine because it supposely caused 30 clots after 5m doses. If indeed the vaccine did cause the clots (and assuming the people were not prone to clots before taking the vaccine), that is still a 0.0006% failure rate. "Smart" people made that decision, not Trumpists. Smart people decided the good for the other 99.9994% really did not matter.

---------

As much as I would like to censure blowhards who know much less than they think they know, there is a bigger danger in not letting them speak their minds.

In my original response, I mentioned the long-term effects of the new vaccines not been tested. You responded with many Covid victims also have long term effects. That was an excellent counter point, making the long-term possibilities of the new vaccines a bit of a moot point.

Let them speak. Acknowledge their position. And be ready with counter points. Unfortunately, I have not been that successful in my counter points. The quote you provided is masterful piece to tell the truth, yet not alarm those people who want a 0% or 100% answer to make the better life decision.

It's a strange world!
