Scott: There was a Medium contributor who expressed left-right "bundles." This means if one was left, that person supported these societal positions and if one was right, it supported a bundle of other positions. There has been little picking of positions, like three tradition efts and one traditional right.

It may be that the left has put "support for Ukraine" into its bundle. We could argue that it believes in democratic freedom for Ukrainian, who do not want to go back to Russian occupation. Or the left may have taken that position simply because the right initially took a hands off position, giving Russians the green light--and the left needed to do opposite to oppose the right.

Another explanation is in Dr. Douglas Giles book "What Left and Right Really Mean." Dr. Giles gives a new, yet simple, paradigm. "Left" means disbursing political power to as many people as possible. "Right" means power being concentrated into an elite.

If this power-sharing s now a natural social force (that also helps explain the bundles), then the right would prefer a Russian elite occupying and managing Ukraine over the Ukrainian people figuring out their own destiny. .

A military analyst on the CBC News had a pretty good outlook. He said a political solution is not possible until the two sides have a big battle. The outcome of that battle could force a political solution. Until then, there is not much any of us can do.
