Shortly after the attack, a Medium contributor published an article about petroleum reserves are being discovered offshore Israel. I know there is one offshore gas field around Haifa.

I should have saved that article. I did a quick search and found a few comments of similar nature.

Hard to say where the truth lies, but Israel is behaving as if they want those reserves to themselves.
