Sign. Another Medium article blaming all of America’s ills on the electoral college. It’s like going to doctor with a bad cough, and he’s checking for warts on the feet.
First off, I believe this piece was partisan. The EC “took away” the result from the writer’s preference in 2000 and 2016. The EC becomes a scapegoat.
Second, Mr. Trump got 62 m votes. He earned at least 95% of them on his own merit. In terms of popular vote, he was close to Ms. Clinton’s 65m votes. The EC will never give the presidency away if the final score was, say, 68 m to 59m. The EC is a reasonable democratic tool for the people to express their preference.
Third, whatever Russian interference was small. Maybe 100,000 votes; and maybe that was enough to affect the vote in a swing state or two. But somehow the D’s could not muster up the right kind of campaign to get the contest beyond a coin toss.
Fourth, Mr. Trump’s FB campaign team won the day for Mr. Trump. It convinced many soft D supporters to stay home on election day. If we don’t like social media to have this much influence, then why are we wasting our time berating the EC?
Here is my link to “The 12 Limitations of Western Democracy.” Try to figure out how replacing the EC with popular vote will fix these limitations.
