Some pubs will let any reasonable piece in. Some pubs will do some copy editing. Some can do some structural editing, indirectly coaching writers to improve their skiils.

Each pub owner will create their own balance of practicality and professionalism. However, without being part of the royalty payment, the pub owners have little financial incentive to provide quality works. I believe Medium should split the royalty 80/20 between the writer and pub owner. Medium will find a new dynamic.

The pub owners who let quality into their pubs should eventually be recognized for their efforts. The better writers will be attracted to those pubs. Readers will use the pubs to find quality reading that they enjoy.

But the pub owners need to paid something.
