Sorry, I cannot agree with this article.
Our political structure has been shaping our individual values systems for decades. Whenever we confrontation and conflict on the TV or internet, it shapes us. We become more like that. When we become more like that, then the system is encouraged to be more like that. Things have been getting amplified for decades. I don't see a de-escalation just because a few "wise" citizens have stepped out of the toxicity of politics.
This fall, I am driving my son to school. I and other parents usually park in a field near the school to drop kids off. This summer something happened. The "other" parents are more aggressive drivers in this informal parking lot. The usual parking lot rules don't seem to apply anymore. People are looking for an edge to get in and out before everyone else. I am parking further away. Something happened to our pysche. I blame Covid and the usual confrontational politics escalating things in just a few months.
We need a system that employs collaboration, consensus, and consultation. That is the example that will change individual value systems. Follow my byline if you are interested in such a system.
