Sounds interesting. Send them my way if you have easy access to these links.

I've been thinking more about your essay. In a way, I was part of the psychological profession for 15 years. I was helping adults who dropped out of high school acquire their high school credentials. My success rate was one out of three.

One-third of my students really didn't need my help. They were extremely determined and worked through their high school course more or less on their own.

Another third were spinning wheels. They didn't put much effort into their work. They were there to tell their friends "I'm in school."

But I was instrumental for the last third. They would bring their math and science problems to me. I would see how their mind was working--and show them how to overcome whatever learning obstacle they had. These students were ready to ask for help.

I had my own mental health challenges. Part of my recovery was understanding my past. With that knowledge, I was able to move forward. I did not need a thorough psychological analysis that requires big computers to massage data.

I just had to admit that I was damaged--and take some steps.

Having said that, I recognize that my mental health issues were smaller than many others' issues.

I had a friend with bigger issues. But he was able to ask for health; his meds needed re-balancing every couple of years. He had a much better life with the meds.
