I've been here for 18 months. The more popular writers do not respond to my comments. The ones trying to make their way into a writing career are often pretty good at responding. I too responded a lot (3000 times), but mostly on articles I had read. I really didn't get that much traction for my own articles., hence there was little need to respond.

Most of my fan base (600) was made from my comments on other articles.

I spent about a year with Writerbeat (now defunct). The moderator had a few rules. A writer could only post one article every 48 hours and a writer had to comment on a few other articles before being allowed to post. That was a very vibrant forum. My articles often generated 20 or more responses. On Medium, the average is about 1.

I think there are a lot of people here now trying to win the Medium lottery. They are not as interested in what others are doing when compared back to "your day."

Should Medium go back to those days? I'm not the management team or original investors. It is their decision, And I certainly don't have enough inside information to make even an intelligent guess.

BTW, I am not on MPP. Within a couple of weeks of being on Medium, I could see my writing was only going to be chicken feed, not worth the bother to set up a Medium MPP account.

I almost quite in June 2019. But then I figured out a Medium angle to promote my work. Alas, it did not work out. Time to leave.
