In a site like yours, you can set up an ad pool which rotates ads for a fresh look with each webpage call. You select the ads you want to show. For unsold adspots, you create your own ads to help you promote yourself.

Promoting myself has more value than earning $12.45 a month.

When you find a paying customer, swap one of your adspots out for that customer. And that customer has to create an ad that is acceptable to you.
