About 10 years ago, the federal and provincial governments did compensate survivors or descendants of the residential schools. That’s when aboriginal students were taken away from their families to become “anglicized”. The children returned home every summer, and some were very broken. There were bad schools and there were some OK schools.

THe compensation, I would estimate, to be around $50,000 each. Not a lot of money. Some spent it wisely. Some not. But it was a good start. We are still in a process of needing more healing.
