Thanks for comment. For sure, there are many more dystopic writers on Medium than writers who are advocating for a different kind of democracy. In fact, I seem to be the only one.
I don't think the Republican oligarchy will be as bad as the dystopian writers suggest. Probably similar to communism. Despite the propaganda from the west, people in communist countries still had considerable freedom. Most of us will learn how to keep heads low.
If society do crumble in a collection of independent communities, there really hasn't been much historical evidence of that.
About a year ago, I wrote an article of the "probabilities" of building a new democracy, using the arguments simalar to Pascal's Wager.
