Thanks. In Canada and USA, the chance of an independent becoming elected is next to zero. Even if that independent has a large local following. The only exception is Bernie Sanders, but the Democrats decided not run a candidate against him, knowing their entry would split the vote, allowing the Republicans to win a blue Senate seat. But this aligning of political forces happens rarely.
One advantage independents have is that they can make whatever decisions without the constraints of party discipline. They can speak their mind (or the minds of their voters). We need more of that.
