Thanks Jeffrey. By my standards, this article was somewhat popular and generated some great responses. You were the first to address the SAT score vs. graduation correlation in a meaningful way.

Educators often talk about "grit," or the ability of a student to push themselves through their coursework. If you don't have grit, all your A's in high school (or great SAT score) won't get you to your second year.

My anecdotal experience is that engineering schools in Canada expect only half of the engineering admissions to make it past the second year. If there was a way we could measure grit beforehand, that would save some of society's resources.

But some engineering students who fail engineering find themselves in other faculties. So maybe it is not a total waste to take that first year of engineering.
