That book is out of stock. Like I said, I might read it off the computer screen now and then.

But your Amazon comment is very noteworthy. I have really cut back my purchases from Amazon because they are not a good corporate citizen. Trouble I can’t cut back everything. I love ebooks, very little ecological footprint.

In an ideal world, we need more co-operatives. I have tried to support co-operatives when possible. Here is my summary:

  1. Co-operators Car Insurance: rates were much higher than private companies, but I was young and in the risky driver category. I never went back.
  2. Mutual Life Insurance: a co-operative life insurance company where I had my term insurance. This company was eventually bought by a private company. I still have my term insurance there.
  3. Credit Union Bank: An umbrella for credit unions across Canada, with individiual branches owned by the branches depositors. In the past 10 years, my local Credit Union has meraged with at least 10 other Credit Unions and similar small banks. My prediction is that these entities will eventually be sold off to a private company.
  4. Co-op Foods: shut down operations in my home town.
  5. Co-op Petroleum: Used to be locally owned, but mergers have created bigger organizations for retail gasoline. I suspect this too will be sold to private interests in a decade.

We need a co-operative distributor like Amazon, for sure. Trouble is that many people cannot see the value of co-operatives — or have the desire to support them.
