The answer of your question is that “the American system is broken.”

I don’t know the details of the American stimulus program. Even when I spent a little time on CNN and Foxx and PBS, I didn’t get much info. I don’t think Americans have a clue how this works. But I imagine some wealthy people are going to get wealthier.

The Canadian federal and provincial governments are creating a hodge-podge of social and business programs. They are making unemployment insurance easier to get as well as a supplemental social program for those displaced by Covid-19. Not exactly a European solution, but at least money is going into the hands of people, who will circulate it in their local economy.

In my opinion, a well run UBI program would have mitigated much of the financial crisis of Covid-19.
