The book is called “Political Order and Political Decay” by Francis Fukuyama.

In his Foundation Series, SF writer Isaac Asimov prophecizes that democracy has a shelf life of about two or three centuries. Then it falls in on itself, replaced by some version of oligarchy.

I’m hoping we can avoid that pattern. By staying with western democracy won’t stop the slide.

In 1984, Orwell’s society divided up the classes as 85% proles, 13% Outer Party, and 2% Inner Party. It seems this is the natural order of how humans organize themselves. There is a small, narrow top.

I caught a bit of the impeachment hearings. I could not help but think everyone in that room — from witnesses to camera operators — were paid at least $100,000 a year. The political establishment and political process cannot be touch with the common people.
