There is an immense amount of the economy being lost just for electioneering. It is an economic loss, indeed. We might be better off hiring unemployed laborers to move rocks from one side of the road to the other side--then back again.
The elections in Tiered Democratic Governance are much cheaper to conduct. And there is no campaigning, so no $60m campaign budgets. So elected officials are not beholden to anyone for their re-election bid.
