The Laffer curve suggests that marginal taxation rates of 70% are when high-income earners start withdrawing their services from the economy, taking on a more relaxed life rather than fatten the bank account.
Canada has its marginal tax rate at 48% to 55% (depending on the province). There is little evidence of any withdrawal of services. Yet people still complain of oppresive taxation--even voters who are at the 25% marginal rate.
If you are at the 25% rate, you are not of the "working poor."
