The mask/vax issue has been sidelined for about a year. The real, underlying issue is that a small demographic wants to run the USA their way--and conditions are shaping up that will allow them to accomplish this goal. If the USA goes in this direction, Canada won't be that far behind. The mask/vax issue is just smokescreen these days for a future right-wing oligarchy.

Now that is off my chest, we should go back to a little history. In 1970, our current prime minister's father evoked the WAR MEASURES ACT which gave the government great powers to deal with a very small group of terrorists. We could argue that it was overkill. But the measures were never applied outside of Quebec and Ottawa. When the crisis ended, the government reverted back to normal times. If the political backlash was the main source of the backtracking, then it served its purpose well. But I have my doubts that the elder Mr. Trudeau would have kept up the MEASURES indefinitely--with or without the backlash.

In a like manner, the current measures may be overkill. But they helped end the blockade sooner than later and sent a message for other organizers not to try this again. Should trucks be impounded for being part of the protest? Especially after being warned to leave and observe the increasing police buildup? I don't feel sorry. If main organizers are a little hampered with frozen bank accounts for a few months, they had the freedom to conduct their protest peacefully. I don't feel sorry. Should the government go after a $200 donator of the cause just because it has the legal authority to do so? It probably won't.

The measures will be lifted in due time, when it becomes the clear the protesters are not returning. If they do return, they will face legal consequences--not the other 37m Canadians.
