The media I'm watching from Canada suggest that the Biden Administration has passed some progressive legislation, like student loan forgiveness. So I think it's unfair to claim the D's have nothing. I'm getting other little similar stories from the media.

Having said that, these kinds of changes take a decade to bear results--and the election cycle is four years. Even if legislation is positive, most voters won't make the connection when they vote. Other voting factors are more important.

Could the D's do better? Probably. But the "car they are driving" limits what they can do.

To do good things, the D's have stay elected. And to stay elected, they need to portray themselves more or less as your essay says. The R's are evil; the D's are saviours. This mantra is likely to remain in the D psyche for a long time. In fact, I believe the D's will keep the R's as a weak foil in American politics, just so they can win elections. In other words, the D's are more concerned about winning the election than the betterment of the American society. Any serious political party in the West suffers from this ailment.

So don't expect the D's to become "holy" some day.

It's time for a new way.
