The original Star Trek and Star Trek TNG had alluded several times to a new kind of economy, where everyone’s needs are met and there are many avenues for personal progress.

In his book “Manna”, Marshall Brain depicts a future utopia where society owns the wealth generated by robots — and distributed that wealth fairly equally. Everyone’s basic needs are met. And there is some surplus for everyone to pursue their passion.

The question that should now arise is how do we go from HERE to THERE. If we keep western democracy, big money will do its best to ensure we don’t go down that path.

The TDG is going to be way to develop a more friendlier and wiser economy. And it will need to be built first before we can find THERE.
