The overthrow of Batista happened because many Cubans were oppressed by this government. Fidel and Che could not have succeeded without some significant degree of popular support. The fact that this article cites former residents who could somehow make things work for themselves in the Batista days is not exactly a sign that the Batista government was so much better than the regime that replaced it.

Using the War of Independence as an example, only about a third of Americans supported that war. They were a minority, but a big enough and energized enough minority to effect that change.

The same probably happened in Cuba in 1959. And maybe about 1/3 will be necessary today. But there are lots of Canadians doing business in Cuba these days, so there seems to be a lot more "liberty" than 20 years ago.

Currently, about 1/3 of Americans support the cavilings of Mr. Trump. While the left-wingers are jubilant that 1/3 is far from a majority, that 1/3 could bring out a new kind of democracy in the USA, shouting "liberty" and "freedom" all the way. But the Americans on the wrong side of that change stand much to lose for that liberty and freedom.
