The "pastors" often talk about young Christians experiencing the world and becoming converted in the wrong way. The secular world gets the blame, but too often the theology is too weak to withstand the rigors of any in-depth analysis.

I have a hypothesis that probably has a psychological name attached to it--and I have not yet discovered the right term. But here goes:

When people latch on to a set of life values to guide them and--deep down inside--are not comfortable with those values, they will try to convert others to those values. Each conversion validates the life choice that the "preacher" has made. Each conversions simmers the internal debate the "preacher" has inside of him or her.

Back in my party-party days, I was trying to convert others to this life style. Beer, pubs, parties, was my religion at that time.
