The psychological need to "belong" is very strong in all of us. Groups have various informal and unconscious mechanisms to recruit and keep their members in line.

Most of the Trump movement cannot move out of that movement. They risk the losing the investment they have put into their personal identity. More importantly, all their social networks will disappear. Cognitive dissonance will not let them consider way.
