The Vikings were pretty good at catching Slavs and selling them as slaves. So I always wondered about this word origin.

A fellow from a Slovak internet group believed that the similarities between Slav and slave was just a coincidence. But with the Latin connection, it seems likely.

In Slovak, slave is "otrok". Nothing close to Latin.
