There are features in the US Constitution that beg questioning — like Negros getting 3/5 of a voter, but not being allowed to vote. And there are features that are amazing. This impeachment process is amazing. It is amazing in that it still gives that “slap on the wrist” to a president who still garners a support level of 40%.

If the impeachment does not inspire this president to become more presidential, he will face continual impeachments if he wins in 2020.

The “rigged” trial in the Senate will allow the 40% to claim a political victory . They will see that the system still works for them, which is important. But at the same time, the public impeachment and trial will publicize enough evidence put those congressmen (and congresswoman) in trial in the court of public opinion: November 2020.

It will only take the D’s to convince 10% of the 50% who don’t normally vote to effect a D landslide. If the D’s were truly saints and truly masters of the political game, the landslide should happen. But . . . .

American democracy is breaking down. There has to be a better answer than voting D. Voting D is only a temporary fix at best.

It’s time for another way.
