There are the laws. Then there are the politics that float behind the laws.

Unfortunately, Mr. Trump has at least 100,000 followers willing to die for his cause; he need only say the word. This "politics" is affecting the actions of the prosecutors. They are reluctant because they fear a big wave of social unrest. If anything, the prosecutors have to build airtight cases. That takes extra time and money. Other crimes go unpunished. Trump-appointed judges may return the favor----and undo the good work of the prosecutors..

Part of the problem goes back to the myth of the American revolution. That myth says the 13 colonies were oppressed by the British government (compared to other peoples even today, they weren't). So the colonies were morally justified in the revolt. The Trump base believes it is being oppressed, so it can morally start a revolution when their leader tells them it is time.

Looking at your notes, I see there are layers of laws that could be applied to justify a prosecution. I watched a fair amount of the first impeachment and heard laws more than 100 years old being used to get the impeachment. And the Senate ignored those laws. Sometimes I think the laws have become too complicated. I could be put into an American prison for my alternative democracy.
