There is no doubt that there is going to be a lot of confusion between Nov 3 and Jan 20--even if Mr. Biden wins with a 70 to 30 margin (which is possible).
In WW2, the American government commissioned a panel of psychologists to analyze Mr. Hitler to help predict the end of the war. Even though this group never saw Hitler personally, their predictions were very accurate. One prediction was that he would take his country to brink of destruction rather than surrender. I think we have some of the same thing here.
In 2016, Mr. Trump gave his Facebook campaign team a green light to do whatever they wanted. This group used psychology to deliver a message to the soft Clinton support that their candidate was not worth the effort to make a trip to the polls. It's always hard to determine the exact effect of these things, but it's not hard to see somewhere around that 500,000 Clinton votes didn't vote because of these ads. If Ms. Clinton got 65.5 m votes instead of 65m votes, USA would have been writing a different history.
So many Medium contributors just don't understand soft support. Even the talking heads on CNN and Fox don't get it.
In the meantime, if you think we shouldn't be writing history on such flipant electoral results, may I suggest an investigation into a new kind of democracy?
