There is no one thing that finds the edge in wars like this. The Allies were already in Italy. The Germans had lost many oilfields. The Russians were putting up an anticipated resistance, often with American military equipment. Resistance movements were getting stronger.

Had Normandy failed, there would have been a delay. But the German defeat was the inevitable outcome.
