There were a number of incidents that tipped the scales towards Mr. Trump in 2016. Had one of them not happened, the result would be different.

Too many left-leaning pundits assumed that each of those incident shifted millions and millions of votes from Clinton to Trump. No, these large shifts did not happen. Maybe 200,000 votes for each incident; maybe 500,000, but not millions and millions.

And when I say 200,000 to 500,000 shift, I mean soft support for Democrats probably decided Ms. Clinton was not worth the effort to cast a vote. They did not vote for Mr. Trump.

Too many left-leaning pundits just cannot get through their head that Mr. Trump earned most of his 62m votes on his own merit. He was a viable contender!

And had he lost the Electoral College, the election of 2016 proved that Trump's style of politics was a winnable style in the USA. MAGA would not have gone back to their holes and re-thought their role in American politics.

There are all sorts of psychological reason for "it is hard to admit you were wrong." The people who push russiagate or emailgate or comeygate are just as guilty of where the USA is today as MAGA.

I really tried to teach political pundits on Medium about the difference between soft and hard support for a political party. I had very little success.
