There’s a little sociopath/psychopath in all of us. The trick is to know that we have these tendencies and do some self-correction.

Another trick we need to learn is how to sideline those with more of these tendencies away from the public decision-making processes. They are dangerous in that realm. I have a solution for that, but Umair is not listening.

Another addiction comes from days when I was trying to save the world by involving myself in party politics (what a futile endeavor that was, but that is another story). One thing I learned is that being an insider is that politics very exciting. You have a front row seat watching people move up and down the ladder of status, influence, and power. If you want — and it’s not hard to do — you can even jump into the game — and acquire some status, influence, and power for yourself. It’s kind of fun — if you’re not losing. Politics is so addicting.

So too is watching politics. Even for those not active in the party trenches ostensibly saving the world can get a reasonable seat by watching the TV news. Who’s going up? Who’s going down? Who’s making a move? Will it work?

Like it or not, Mr. Trump is good news for our political addiction. The R trenches are exciting. The D trenches are exciting. The media trenches are exciting. All the pundits (like Umair) have their own unique way of putting glee into our cerebullum to make us feel good (or whatever brain part makes us feel good).

But otherwise, this was a good Umair article.
