There's a lot of psychology happening here. When a person puts a lot of their identity into belonging to an organization and that organization turns against them, cognitive dissonance kicks in. That person will find ways to justify the organization.
Another force is these people have built up their social network within the organization. If they are somehow on the outside, they have to find a whole new group to get social connections. That is really hard for many people to make that break. And then they have at admit they were wrong!
It's great that you are telling stories of a few defections. Before the election, CNN was interviewing defectors, giving the impression that the Trump base was weakening. But that was not the case. The 30% is still a strong political/social movement. It will take a generation to dilute it--if it doesn't take over first.
