There's a saying in Canadian politics. For about half the constituencies, the winner is known even before the campaigns starts. Certain demographics will just elect a certain party. That party could run a fence post against Jesus Christ and still win.
For much of America, certain electoral jurisdictions are going to go red or go blue, no matter what happens. This means the real election is the party primary, where maybe 15% of the population will vote. The general election is just for show.
So 15% get to select the party candidate. Given these contests are often contested, less than 15% will deem the winner as their first choice. Maybe 5%.
Five percent getting to choose the political leadership sounds pretty feudalistic to me.
It's time for a new way. Is it not?
