This a very thoughtful response.

Your second last sentence has given me more thinking fodder. Some of us realize that neither the survivalist nor the spiritual/emotional solution, which has been called "singing kum-ba-ya at the campfire", are going to work.

I spent six years in a Canadian political party, hoping that my involvement would somehow change things. To make a long story short, it took me six years to figure out that political parties are quasi-dysfunctional. This dysfunction spills into governance and then society-in-general.

But somehow I invented another system of governance to address all the flaws I was seeing with internal party politics. I started writing this system down 24 years ago.

In world that wants either quick fixes or promises of quick fixes, my system falls short. It will require more effort than showing up on a Saturday afternoon to protest something.

This effort will require about 10 hours a month working with neighbors to build this new democracy. And it will take several years.

This movement needs only a critical mass of 1% to get started. It needs neither help nor permission from the political elite, the wealthy, the intelligentsia, survivalists, and kum-ba-ya choirs. (I just added the last two to this list, thanks to your astute observation).

So is there a 1% willing to work with their neighbors about 10 hours a month and be patient for this new system to evolve?
