This essay was well balanced in terms of political will and practicality.

While I applaud the direction Ms. Klein think we should go in, I have little confidence that western democracy is able to take us in that direction. As Ms. Klein said, centralist Democrats in the American Congress will not be able to make radical changes.

Our inability to deal with the environment and climate change is a sign that our political systems are not working. The very fact that Ms. Klein has to write books in hopes the public — and eventually the politicians — will change their minds proves that current political systems are not responsive enough to our increasingly more complex societies.

I am wondering if Ms. Klein and her followers would be interested in reading about an alternative system of governance. This system puts capable people in charge who would not be beholden to any political party apparatus to affect decisions.

The only alternative to this investigation of a new system is to continue believing that western democracy will eventually deliver what Ms. Klein wants. She has been writing books for a long time.
