This is a great psychological summary of the mood of the people.

After the "collapse," some will figure things out. But many won't.

During the American occupation of Germany after WW2, the American army had to put vertical poles in front of their jeeps. Why? Because some saboteurs would stretch wires across the road. The jeep drivers could not see the wires--and run through them, often decapitating the solders. Some German citizens were still at war.

From my understanding of history, it took about a decade for many Germans to abandon that thinking. Some never did.
