This is my 5th year on Medium. And this is perhaps my 50th read on why the EC has to go.

The EC was instrumental in the early USA and its land grab. Without the alliance of the 13 states, Michigan and points west would be in Canada's hands today. And without the American unity, SW USA would still be in Mexico. The deal behind the EC formed that unity.

My article hints at the legalistic slight-of-hand that precipitated the January 6, 2021 protest. Basically, the EC rules are byzantine and have loopholes that can be exploited. These loopholes have been known for a long time, but the two parties, up until 2020, agreed to run the EC according to tradition, not legalese.

We could argue that the various reasons for the EC no longer exist today. Yet the US Constitution is incapable of any amending.

This is a sign of a broken democracy. Fixing the EC will not fix the USA.
