This was a fun read.
I was one of the naysayers of solar roadways. But mostly because I recognized that there was a lot more technology that needed to be developed. If we really wanted this technology, it is possible. But there is a high cost (both time and $$) to get it. Yet I think that cost would be worth it.
The trouble of trying to sell a book is a case of Economics 101: supply and demand. There are more writers willing to put creative efforts into writing than readers willing to read all these works--at least to the point of most writers earning a living wage. The result is that many writers are statistically doomed to not find financial success.
Finding a magic formula to sell books would not increase total demand to read books. In essence, a successful writer with a great marketing tool would only be taking business away from other writers. And these writers would eventually learn about that tool and start applying it.
The recent advances in self-publishing means more writers are able to afford getting their stuff out there. For example, my last e-book took about a half hour to convert from WORD to KINDLE. This technology increases the supply, but not the demand.
We could bemoan that too many people are wasting their spare time watching football or attending Trump rallies. If these people would only read more, writers would be better rewarded. But that is another discussion.
