Thoughtful essay indeed.

My take is that the Republicans are behaving as if another coup attempt is in the works. So all this talk of them losing a little support is not weakening their resolve. In their mind, the next election will be rigged, so it's time to take more direct action.

Gerrymandering gets a lot of attention as a political fix. My take is that it can affect a few seats for a certain party. But gerrymandering will not vault an unpopular party way over a popular party. Plus, at a national level, the Senate and Electoral College cannot be gerrymandered. Yes, the R's have an edge in these elections but not because of gerrymandering.

I liked your comment on California being gerrymandered to the D favor.

I like your comment on the ineffectiveness of "term limits."

If there is anything a reader should get from this article, it is that the American system of democracy is broken. It is time for a new way.
