To attract tourists, the Czech government refurbished a castle north of Brno, Czech Republic. The idea was to authenticate the times of 300 or 400 years ago. Tourists did come to see this wonderful castle.

The aristocratic families would gather in the grand meeting hall to discuss whatever they needed to discuss. On the walls were the crests of the aristocratic families. The family names were mostly German, with a few Polish names------in a country where Czechs constituted 80% of the population. The Czechs did not have much say in governing of their own country.

This is the natural order of humanity. A small fraction gets to control of the rest. Call it instinct if you must.

Ms. Martinchek once again demonstrates her lack of political understanding. The Democratic primaries (and the Republican primaries and the Canadian nominations and the party lists of Europe's proportional representation countries) are all designed to disguise the fact that only a small fraction of the population gets much of the control of the party--and later the country. In some ways, we western democracies are still very much in feudalistic times.

Here's how it works. An overly ambitious person want to acquire public office. That person, with a few weeks of hard work before the primary, can acquire the party's nomination. If the seat is of the right color (blue or red), that person is heading for Congress with just a token effort in the general election. If you were an overly ambitious person, would you prefer to fight the REAL election with only 5% of the population voting and later face one opponent OR have a wide open contest where many more competent people could win the general election? What system will give you the better odds?

Let me put this in another way. The primaries are mostly a tool to eliminate the much of the competition for status, influence, and power.

Ms. Martinchek somehow believes that her rants on Medium is going to change the Democratic Party. Sorry, that is not going to happen. The D's have been playing this game for a very long time. Read about "Henry Wallace."

USA (and other western democracies) really need to rethink their democracies. This will take much more than clapping for Ms. Martinchek's articles.
