To me, American elections maximize the drama. Americans will call a 53-47 split a landslide, while in Canada, this would be a close election.
The email scandal dropped in 2016 probably cost Hillary the election. Some of her soft supporters decided not to make the trip to the polls that day. Not a lot when compared to the final counts, but just enough to flip a swing state or two the other way. And when a swing state flips, its score is doubled because 20 EC votes for me is also 20 less votes for you--for a marign of 40 votes. Talk about drama!
So the next four years of American history were decided on this somewhat trivial event. Sort of like General Motors putting all its marbles on one line of car.
