To those whom this article was pointed at, I wonder what they would think about my freedom as I drive my sports car 100 mph through the school zone where their children cross.

Freedom is too often espoused as a platitude, something everyone inherently understands. If two people don't have the same understanding, then the ones who shout loudest and longest have the true definition, right?

Freedoms need to be restricted. Otherwise there is chaos. Deciding which freedoms to restrict comes with democratic due process: elections, legislatures, and enforcement.

But we really need a different kind of democracy to build the respect for decisions that limit freedom. Our current system is losing that respect for the process.
