Trouble is that both sides would see ressentiment as a problem for the other side. Each side would claim "justice, truth, and love" as their own.

Sorry, I watched a CNN clip today. The reporter was at a Trump rally interviewing attendees. January 6 was caused by Democrats and the FBI. No Trump people were ever involved. I didn't know that!

Having spent six years in a Canadian political party, I can confidently say that the active party members do form an "identity-bond" with that party. There is indeed a lot of psychological forces working on these active party members, who somehow believe they have thought things through independently.

When the party's image is a little bit shattered, the party members will find psychological ways to justify the party's failings: like Democrats and FBI were responsible for January 6.

Recently there have been a few political articles on Medium about why the Trump base haven't been able to let go. They have built their identify and social structure around this idealogy. To say "I was wrong" would leave them lost.

Maybe we need a more positive outlet for a political identity.
