Twenty years ago, I had a column for a rural newspaper. I called for an increase in fuel taxes.

I got some negative feedback from that article: My town used to be an oil town and had wealthy people who liked to travel. As well, there is no public transport, so everyone needs access to a car.
A slowly increasing fuel tax would have changed our behaviors. Fewer planes, fewer ships crossing oceans, fewer car trips for silly reasons. We would have adjusted. Climate change would have been less of an issue today.
And the free market could have claimed a victory in helping this social change!
I was watching Joe Biden today on CNN. He seems unperturbed about the possibility of Covid 22.
Sigh!
