Umair is using that word "powerless" again.
I've been amazed at how many Medium political writers believe that their articles will singlehandedly tip the scales of American history away from fascism. But the truth is that they are like the loudest fans in a football stadium. They may yell and cheer, but the outcome of the game is determined by players, coaches, and referees.
But Umair is right: the average citizens (including political writers on Medium) are indeed powerless. We can only hope that the smart people with the levers know what they are doing.
If citizens really want power, it is time to build a new democracy: a kinder, wiser democracy.
I figure such citizens will only need to invest 10 hours a month into starting this project. But here are all the steps:
